The Callous and Barbaric Murder Of Akunyili

The callous and barbaric murder of Dr Chike Akunyili, husband of our late Amazon, Dora Akunyili, by some unknown gunmen, is a sad reminder of the state of anomie that has become the lot of the south-east, where some misguided non-state actors have completely taken over the ungoverned spaces thus becoming a law unto themselves.
Outlaws becoming the law themselves. It does not get nastier and more obscene than this. It’s the failure of leadership in the South-East.
No one has sympathy, even if it is subtle, for outlaws and miscreants and gets away with it eventually. They will turn against you in the long run.
I wonder the sort of patriotism one has to preach to the Akunyilis at this trying time of their lives. It’s more than pathetic, to say the least.
Dr. Chike was no ordinary Nigerian. He was a consultant physician, who decided to stay back in the country to contribute his quota to our healthcare delivery system.
You know what it means to train a consultant and the arduous hours of grueling studying and practice to become one?
The gruesome murder of the gentleman is our country’s big loss.
Unfortunately, for what Nigeria has become – a country of outlaws, no one knows for whom the bell will toll tomorrow.
As we speak, Air Vice Marshall Smith, a well-decorated retired Air Chief with a PhD to boot, is still in his abductors’ den, hoping against hope in a completely hopeless situation.
It’s mourning yet on this creation day. But for how long?
