Edo State Government Commences Recruitment of Over 700 Healthcare Professionals to Boost Health Sector Reforms

In a bid to strengthen its primary healthcare system and boost ongoing health sector reforms, the Edo State Government has commenced the recruitment of over 700 healthcare practitioners. The Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration has embarked on this recruitment process to bring onboard qualified doctors, nurses, community extension workers, and administrators, among others.
Speaking on the recruitment exercise, the Executive Secretary of the Edo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Omosigho Izedonmwen, disclosed that the recruitment cuts across the full spectrum of the staffing crew. He further noted that the recruitment exercise would be driven by technology, hence the criteria includes computer literacy.
According to Izedonmwen, the government’s target is to get the successful candidates onboard towards the end of April, and they will be placed in the agency in not more than three weeks. He added that the state already has 497 primary healthcare centers and is committed to having at least one functional primary health center in one ward to make a total of at least 192 fully functional centers with all the infrastructures, technology, personnel, and resources readily available.
The Edo State Government has expressed its commitment to strengthening the primary healthcare system, delivering equitable, efficient, and quality health services to the people of Edo state. The ongoing recruitment process of healthcare professionals is part of the government’s effort toward achieving this objective.
