FIRS Leader Muhammad Nami Scoops Up Dual Accolades at ICAN and BusinessDay Ceremonies
Muhammad Nami, the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), has been honored with the Non-Members Category Merit Award by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) at its Annual Dinner Awards 2023. The award ceremony, which took place at the Monarch Event Centre in Lagos on May 6, recognized Mr. Nami’s exceptional leadership, which has led the FIRS to achieve outstanding success in revenue collection despite global economic challenges.
In addition to the ICAN Merit Award, Mr. Nami was also named the winner of the BusinessDay Excellence in Public Service Award 2022, which was presented at the BusinessDay States Competitiveness and Good Governance Awards 2022 on May 4. The award was in recognition of his visionary leadership and contributions to tax administration and compliance in Nigeria.
During the ICAN award ceremony, Mr. Nami was described as an ingenious leader who has implemented significant reforms at the FIRS, leading to the agency’s unprecedented revenue collection of N10.1 trillion in 2022. Mr. Nami dedicated the award to his alma mater, former colleagues, taxpayers, FIRS staff and board members, and his family.
In his speech, he expressed gratitude for the recognition and noted that he has been fortunate to work with ICAN members throughout his 32-year career. He also credited the success of the FIRS to the commitment and hard work of the agency’s staff.
