Nigerian National Blood Service Commission (NBSC) Undertakes Study Tour of Tanzanian Blood National Blood Service System
In an effort to enhance the Nigerian blood service system, the Nigerian National Blood Service Commission (NBSC) recently embarked on a study tour to the Tanzanian Blood National Blood Service System. The visit aimed to explore best practices and strategies implemented by Tanzania to improve blood donation, collection, and distribution.
The delegation from the NBSC, comprising experts and officials in the field of blood services, engaged in a comprehensive knowledge exchange with their Tanzanian counterparts. The study tour spanned several days, during which the Nigerian team had the opportunity to observe the operations, infrastructure, and management practices of the Tanzanian blood service system.
The Tanzanian Blood National Blood Service System has been recognized for its remarkable achievements in establishing an efficient and reliable blood supply network. Its successful implementation of strategies such as community engagement, mobile blood donation drives, and advanced blood testing techniques has significantly increased blood availability and accessibility throughout the country.
The Nigerian delegation closely examined the Tanzanian system’s blood collection procedures, including the effective utilization of mobile blood donation units that reach remote areas and encourage voluntary donations. Additionally, they studied the Tanzanian system’s advanced blood testing methods, quality assurance protocols, and inventory management practices, all of which contribute to a safe and reliable blood supply.
Dr. Omale Joseph Amedu mni, the Acting Director General of the NBSC, expressed his gratitude to the Tanzanian Blood National Blood Service System for their warm reception and the valuable insights shared during the study tour. He emphasized the importance of collaboration among African nations to improve blood service systems, save lives, and ensure the availability of safe blood for patients in need.
Upon their return to Nigeria, the NBSC plans to implement some of the best practices and strategies learned from Tanzania. This study tour is part of the NBSC’s commitment to continually enhance the Nigerian blood service system and ensure the availability of blood products of the highest quality to meet the needs of patients across the country.
